Unithai Shipyard to operate the largest floating dock in Thailand

Unithai Shipyard and Engineering continues to develop and strengthen the capacity and capabilities in ship repair services at its shipyard in Thailand in response to client needs, and is to operate the largest floating dock in the country.

Unithai Shipyard awarded the contract to China’s Huarun Dadong Dockyard, to build a floating dock 984ft long and 170ft feet wide, and boasting a lifting capacity of 48,000 tonnes, which would make it the largest dock in Thailand. The christening ceremony took place at the Unithai Shipyard premises on 9 May 2017.

“This new floating dock will increase Unithai Shipyard’s capacity and capabilities to accommodate Aframax and Post-Panamax vessels of up to 150,000dwt in dry dock for repairs and maintenance,” said Unithai Shipyard managing director Teerapon Udomkanjananan.

“Together with the existing 50,000dwt-capacity floating dock, Unithai Shipyard is able to undertake the entire range of ship repair services, up to 200,000dwt.”
